the flags

"as an effort and special tribute to commemorate
in conjunction with Malaysia's 50th National Day
i've wrote and posted about
things that are related to Merdeka
from 1 till 31 August 2007"

i love to look at colourful things
hence, while browsing through several websites
yang berkisar tentang Merdeka
i found one website that has all
bendera negeri-negeri di Malaysia

and i thought of testing my own knowledge
in naming all 14 negeri and ibu negeri
of each flags

can you?
;)

kepada yang berjaya tu..
(tanpa perlu rujukan)
tahniah diucapkan !!!

it's a bad credit

i have been meaning
to comment about this one;

The 50 Things Malaysian Poll
by The Star newspaper

how could this one in particular
be categorised as and in the same

Personalities
Tunku Abdul Rahman
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad
Tan Sri P. Ramlee
Sudirman
Mat Rempit
Ah Long
Lat

what an insult !!!!???

even though..
Mat Rempit and Ah Long
need to be there as the result of people's choice
through the online voting of some sort
they should have been in other grouping

but, please not as PERSONALITIES
are we now 'glorifying' them?

oh Malaysiaku...

the monuments

masa kecik-kecik dulu.. masa sekolah rendah..
cikgu/sekolah selalu buat rombongan
(yang murid-murid kena beratur panjang
dalam 2 barisan dan kena ingat kawan sebelah
sambil bawak bekal dan botol air)
ke tempat-tempat bersejarah
yang melambangkan negara
dan membina semangat patriotik

antaranya;

Tugu Negara

Muzium Negara

Masjid Negara

Parlimen Negara

Bank Negara

Taman Negara???

hehe.. aku pun tak pernah sampai lagi..

tak pasti la pulak
samada cikgu/sekolah sekarang ni
ada lagi ke buat lawatan bercorak begini

apapun..
bila dah 'tua-tua' ni
nak sebut nama-nama tu pun segan
apatah lagi nak pergi jenguk / melawat

oleh itu..
sempena Hari Merdeka ke 50 ini
adalah dengan ini, saya ingin merasmikan juga
Kempen Marilah Melawat Tempat-Tempat Negara
dengan lafaz bismillah.. ayuh!.. jom!...

(sambil memotong ribben merah
dengan disusuli paluan kompang)

:)

the principles

dulu..
masa zaman sekolah rendah
kalau orang tanya and suruh sebutkan
memang mudah je nak jawab
apatah lagi lafazkan
the Rukun Negara

well,
apa tidaknya
masa umur sebegitu
we need to hafal sifir 1 hingga 12
thus, we need to refer to the back side of buku tulis tu
yang mana di bahagian atasnya ada Rukun Negara
hence, indirectly, terhafal la sekali..

in the past
i had had the opportunities
to lead the assembly of people in various occasions
to read the Rukun Negara during several ceremonies
yang pasti akan naik semangat apabila menyebut
"Makaaaa Kamiiii, Rakyatttt Malaysia, Berrrikrarrr..."

perghhh...

it's not mine

been busy and going heptic
during this few days

hence,
tak sempat nak update/write
any long/proper postings

anyhow..
am still reading all emails
and i thought i just need to share this;

a good friend of mine
had been dropping few lines daily
with wonderful phrases before ending his writing
and i just thought these quotes were really something
to ponder upon -

"it is better to be hated for what you are
than be loved for what you are not"

"laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life
laughing at someone else's can shorten it"

- thanks Dr. Cool

it's real awesome

i never was a fan of any opera songs
but this particular performance
really took me by surprise
and immediately loving it
and making it my phone ringtone
:)

it was the combination of
his humbleness, his personal background
the reaction from the audience and judges
and the way he sang the song of course
- the clip shows it all

well.. i think..
Pavarotti's, Sarah Brightman's, Andrea Borcelli's
and perhaps even the original and other versions
did not move me much or make the same effect

but this guy - Paul Pott
especially his audition version
was really amazing and superb !

(and at the time i was drafting this post
the hit for that video in youtube
has already reached over 9 million)

oh ya.. by the way..
he did win that competition - Britain's Got Talent
and as they say.. the rest is history..

* the full song is here as sang by him during the final
* the full lyric is here and the history of Nessun Dorma

the flower

bunga rasmi atau bunga kebangsaan
untuk negaraku Malaysia
adalah Bunga Raya
atau nama latin/sains nya 'hibiscus'
atau nama penuhnya Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis

Nota:
jangan nak saja-saja tersalah sebut/eja plak
jadi 'hi biskut', 'high on biscuits' atau 'habis discuss'
ataupun dengan memperolok-olokkan
perkataan bunga raya jadi 'bung, raya bung!'
:( marah karanggg!!!!

apapun..
apa yang agak menyedihkan pada zaman ini
kalau kita perhatikan betul-betul
amatlah susah nak nampak bunga raya

boleh kita amati juga
bahawa di kawasan seperti
bangunan pejabat kerajaan, sekolah, taman bunga

contohnya..
dulu mak aku pernah tanam bunga raya

ingin melancarkan, Kempen Mari Tanam Hibiscus !
bismillah... (sambil potong ribben dan cedok tanah)

;)

it's all about love

rasa bosan sesangat petang semalam
nak go out to malls - malas
nak makan lagi - lauk dah abis
nak keluar jogging - panas ya ampun
nak baca buku - takde mood
nak layan tv - cerita sama je dok ulang
hmmmm..

akhirnya.. layan vcd/dvd..

ada 3,4 keping cerita melayu
yang belum tertengok since i bought them
last Mac (masa balik cuti)

for a start, i decided to watch 'Cinta'

perghhhhhhh.. memang power cerita ni
almost, made me cry
well, very teary indeed
ok la, i did cry a little
puas hati?
:P

no wonder it won The Best Film award
and 3 other awards as well
during the 20th Festival Filem Malaysia
last saturday in Penang

salute to the director, actors and actress (and crew)
this is definitely a very good movie
a breakaway from typical Yasmin's movies
that have been dominating and set as benchmark
for the last five years or so

anyway..
after (finally) watching the film
now, the song Perpisahan by Anuar Zain
is even more sad to listen than before

and by some browsing in youtube
i found this video-music

perghhhhh...

the songs

bila tiba time nak sambut Merdeka ni
ada 3 songs that i do not mind to listen to them, repeatedly
(and perhaps would sing along or humming occassionally)

Lagu Warisan
bila tetiba rasa patriotik
and teringat nak berkorban untuk negara

Lagu Negaraku (of course)
but, i still prefer the old version of the song

Lagu Keranamu Malaysia
among the many songs that have been produced
as part of the Merdeka celebration
my vote is for this one

the symbols

over the 50 years
among the many Logo and Tema
for Hari Kebangsaan
some of them were really good and cool
some were inspiring and memorable
some were so-so, some were "nehhh.. whatever"

for me personally.. out of the many
Tema yang paling 'lousy' were the following;

Bersatu

Bersatu

Berjaya

why i said it was lousy?
well.. kebanyakan Tema Sambutan Merdeka
would always be longer that only one word
and these words should have gave more impact and ummmpphhh!
as when they were used together with other words
like the following;

Bersatu Berdisiplin

Setia Bersatu Berusaha Maju

Bersatu Menuju Wawasan

Bersatu Ke Alaf Baru

some other words that were 'recycled'
for the Merdeka themes are; Berdisplin, Budaya and Wawasan

Bersatu Berdisplin

Berdisplin Berharmoni

Berdisplin Giat Maju

Kebudayaan Sendi Perpaduan

Budaya Penentu Kecapaian

Wawasan 2020

Wawasan Asas Kemajuan

Bersatu Menuju Wawasan

Nilai Murni Jayakan Wawasan

Jatidiri Pengerak Wawasan

for the rest, it was so-so
neither bad nor good
some were longer, not simple nor catchy
but certainly made you 'think twice'

Ketahanan Rakyat

Bersama Ke Arah Kemajuan

Amanah Asas Kejayaan

Nasionalisme Teras Perpaduan

Bangsa Tegas Negara Teguh

Akhlak Mulia Masyarakat Jaya

Negara Kita Tanggungjawab Kita

the 'winner' for the worst Logo
i would have to give to this one;

the theme was sweet - Bersatu Maju
just the logo - the design was weird
and definitely different from all the rest
don't you think so?

anyway..
my favourite Tema and Logo
undisputedly, will have to be this one

otherwise, it would not be used again and again
for tahun 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006

the theme "Keranamu Malaysia"
really inspiring and says it all
and was wonderfully paired with the logo
that resembles 'a man lifting up against the weight'

nevertheless..
this year theme and logo

definitely something different
and about time to replace
that 7 years old logo
:)

"Malaysiaku Gemilang"
and i've predicted that for next year
probably it would be "Malaysiaku Cemerlang"
and then "Malaysiaku Terbilang"
;)

the photo

bila sebut Merdeka
i will always terbayang the scene
bila Tunku Abdul Rahman melaungkan
Merdeka ! Merdeka ! Merdeka ! Merdeka ! Merdeka !
di Stadium Merdeka pada 31 Ogos 1957

even though me (and most of us)
wasn't there when the event actually took place
but certainly, that scene / snapshot
i would always remember it
as one of the unforgettable moments
and would always think of it
every times someone mentioning the word merdeka

what's yours?

the video

out of the hundred video clips
produced by various entities for various purposes
one of my favourite videos with Merdeka theme
will be the above - The Kasut Gombak Video

it was first aired in late 90s i think
in both Malay and English language
was one of the many infamous creation of Yasmin Ahmad

the reasons why i like this video in particular;
because it reminded me to be proud and not less superior
in buying / consuming any Made-in-Malaysia products
and also because i had experienced about the same occurrence
as what had been potrayed in the video

i.e. back in year 1990
i was on this mini-bus No. 15,
heading to Taman Melati, Gombak
wearing this locally-made Lee Rubber sports shoes
and this girl was giving me 'that' look
while staring up and down at my shoes and me
and then giggled with her other friends
something to do with other brand of kasut
Pallas Jazz, Fong Keong and the likes

well.. that's then..
pahit masa melaluinya dulu
manis bila dikenang kini
;) hehe...
